Undead and Unworthy

by Mary Janice Davidson
Book 7 in the Betsy Taylor Vampire Queen Series

In this book Betsy and Sinclair have just Married.  Betsy, the unwitting Vampire Queen is still trying to figure how just what it means to be queen, what she must do as queen, and what her powers are and how to handle them.  He husband, Sinclair is King, only because he slept with her right after she defeated the old ruler.  They do come to love each other and have a human wedding, although Sinclair is a bit overprotective of Betsy.

I liked this book better than the last few.  Betsy is finally accepting her responsibilities and is finally being less of a materialist twit.  I wish the author would go deeper into Betsy and the other characters, adding more romance and heartbreak.  It's good, but not one of my favorites, but really, how bad could a book with vampires be anyway?

Undead and Uneasy by Mary Janice Davidson

Book 6 in the Betsy Taylor Vampire Queen Series

In this book the series comes to a conclusion of sorts.  Betsy is left alone with no support and has to deal with things on her own.  This is good because I'm getting a little sick of Betsy being such a dumb ass and so selfish.  It was funny for a few books, but is growing old.  The series was stalling for the last few books, but this one rivaled the first few.  I like the series, but wish for more substance.

Confessions of a Counterfeit Farm Girl by Susan McCorkingdale

I saw this book for sale at Target and thought it sounded interesting.  This book is truly funny!  The author has a high flying magazine editor job in New York, but wanted out.  Her husband found a 500 acre cattle farm his brother bought and needed a manager for 2 years.  So, the family moved from New Jersey to the middle-of-no-where.  The book is in short essay/chapter form.  Yes, there are lots of where-am-I-going-to-buy-my-designer-shoes-now, type of jokes, but my favorites are when she discusses her kids.  As a mother myself, I can totally relate to what she says about the crazy stuff her kids do.  There were numerous times when I was reading that I laughed so hard my eyes started tearing up.  The perfect book to laugh away the grey end of winter days.

You Suck, A Love Story by Christopher Moore

This is the follow-up to his book, Bloodsucking Fiends. Vampire Jody, tired of being a vampire alone, turned her boyfriend, who decides he wants to be called Vampire Flood, into a vampire too. Vampire Flood finds a new minion, Abby Normal, a Goth 16 year old, to help with the day stuff. The vampires are still dealing with being vampires and worrying about the elder vampire, who is still out to get them. Tommy's (Vampire Flood) co-workers are still up to no good in this book as well.

The plot seems to be a little weaker in this book, but there are a lot more laughs. At one point I was laughing so hard I thought I might wake up the kids. Abby Normal's journal entries are are so funny. A very entertaining book.

Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore

This is a goofy, funny, quirky vampire book and it is great. I'll start out by saying that I love vampire books. I like the characters fighting the evil in themselves and all the unique, supernatural, mystical stuff that goes along with it. This book is all that and FUNNY! I read it snatching chapters here and there as I could and stayed up late two nights in a row to finish it in two days. Finally a book about a women vampire and her human minion/love interest. The minion’s character and his work buddies' are great. I particularly liked the wiser than anyone homeless man, The Emperor and his troops-- two dogs. The dialog is smart and funny. I started on the 2nd book immediately.
